San Jose State University marks its origin in 1857 and it was known as the Minns Evening Normal School located in San Francisco. The school holds this name as it was found by George W. Minns. San Jose State University is one of the known public universities of California in Silicon Valley. The university is said to be among oldest public universities located on West Coast. It is the original campus for the California State University. According to the 2018 records, San Jose State has an enrollment of about 32,828 students every year. San Jose University is the most flourishing campus of California State University as the State gets the highest number of students from San Jose. There is a lot of diversity seen among the student population of San Jose, especially Asian and Hispanic students form the majority of the students.

San Jose State University is situated in the downtown area of San Jose and the main campus of San Jose State is spread out to 154 acres or can be counted as 19 square blocks. The university shares its boundaries with San Fernando Street in the north and San Salvador Street in the south. To the west of the campus lies South 4th Street and to the eastern South 10th Street. The university has got all facilities for students available within the campus. University consists of about 55 buildings expanding in the whole 154 acres. The main campus of San Jose State comprises of six residence halls which house around 4350 students. Another chief location of SJSU is the athletics arena located on the South campus.
