Trinity College Dublin

Established back in 1592, Trinity College Dublin is Ireland’s oldest higher education institution and one of the seven “ancient universities” in the territory of the UK and Ireland. It’s the only constituent college of the University of Dublin, and was modelled after the colleges of Oxford and Cambridge. Today, Trinity College Dublin is Ireland’s most prestigious university, ranked 88th in the world. Over 17,000 students are currently enrolled across the university’s three faculties: Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Engineering, Mathematics and Sciences; and Health Sciences.

National University of Ireland, Galway

The National University of Ireland, Galway continues to improve its position in the 2018 edition of the QS World University Rankings, now placing joint 243rd and also achieving a five-star rating in the QS Stars assessment system. More than 17,000 students are enrolled at the university, which is based in the city of Galway, on the western coast of Ireland, and the campus is currently undergoing a €400 million redevelopment program. The university prides itself on offering many less-typical courses, including a BSc in Podiatry and BE/MEng in Sport and Exercise Engineering.

Dublin City University

A much younger institution compared to the three historic universities listed above, Dublin City University was established in 1975 and gained university status in 1989. Nonetheless, it’s gained a strong position in a short space of time, and is now ranked joint 391st in the world. About 16,000 students are currently enrolled, including around 1,000 enrolled in distance education courses. Based in the northern part of the city of Dublin, the university boasts an impressive selection of on-campus facilities, including The Helix – a large arts venue, complete with several different-sized performance spaces.

University College Dublin

University College, Dublin is a research university in Dublin, Ireland. It has over 1,482 faculty and 32,000 students and it is Ireland’s largest university. The university originates in a body founded in 1854 with John Henry Newman as the first rector known as the Catholic University of Ireland, re-formed in 1880 and chartered in its own right in 1908. The Universities Act, 1997 renamed the constituent university as the “National University of Ireland, Dublin”, and a ministerial order of 1998 renamed the institution as “University College Dublin – National University of Ireland, Dublin”.

National College of Ireland

National College of Ireland (NCI) is a third-level education college in Dublin. Founded in 1951, it offers full and part-time courses from certificate to degree and postgraduate level in areas related to computing, business, and psychology. All courses are delivered from the IFSC campus in Dublin and across a network of regional centres. The College’s specialist areas include psychology, human resource management, data analytics, management, cloud computing, fintech, accountancy, cybersecurity, education, and finance.

Griffith College

Established in 1974, with campuses in Dublin, Griffith College is the largest independent higher education institution in Ireland with a student population of around 7,000 with 1,400 overseas students from over 77 countries. It is named after the former Griffith Barracks on the South Circular Road in Dublin.

Limerick Institute of Technology

Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT) is an institution of higher education in Limerick, Ireland and is one of 14 member institutions of the Technological Higher Education Association (THEA). The Institute has campuses in Limerick city, one in both Thurles and Clonmel in County Tipperary and a regional learning centre in Ennis, County Clare. The main campus is located at Moylish Park adjacent to Thomond Park and houses the Faculty of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology and the School of Business and Humanities. The School of Art & Design is located at the Clare Street and Clonmel campuses.

Institute of Technology, Carlow

Founded in 1960, IT Carlow is located in the centre of Ireland’s South Leinster region, approximately one hour from Dublin. IT Carlow is the fourth-largest Institute out of 14 Institutes of Technology (IoTs) in the country (7,500 learners), but has ranked in the top three of the 14 IoTs for CAO first preferences for Level 8 honours degree programmes since 2010. As of 2017 IT Carlow has over 50,000 alumni.

Dundalk Institute of Technology

Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) formerly Regional Technical College is a 90-acre (360,000 m2) campus situated in Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland, halfway between Dublin and Belfast (each approximately 80 kilometres away). The campus is 800 metres from the main Dublin Belfast road and 3 minutes drive from the M1 motorway to Dublin. Dublin Airport is a 35-minute drive by car. Dundalk is served by the Dublin Belfast Train and Dundalk’s Clarke Station is approximately a 20-minute walk from the campus.

Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology

GMIT Galway campus is based on the Dublin Road in Galway city, overlooking Galway Bay. It is the administrative headquarters for the Institute and has four Schools of study; the School of Business, the School of Engineering, the School of Science & Computing, and the College of Tourism & Arts. Also located at this campus is the Innovation Hub, the Lifelong Learning Centre and the Research, Development & Innovation Centre.
