Fanshawe College – Description

Fanshawe is a comprehensive college serving the greater London region by providing flexible learning arrangements and experiential education opportunities developed in response to labour market needs.

One of Ontario’s largest colleges – with four campuses in London, Simcoe, St. Thomas and Woodstock – Fanshawe serves close to half a million people with a promise to educate, engage, empower and excite.
We offer more than 200 degree, diploma, certificate and apprenticeship programs to 43,000 students each year, helping people unlock their potential and achieve success in a variety of disciplines including applied arts, business, health care, human services, hospitality and technology.

Known as Ontario Vocational College (OVC) initially, Fanshawe College is a public college that was established in London, Ontario in 1962. Classes were first held on 28th September 1964. The name Fanshawe was given in 1967 by combining the words ‘fane’ meaning building or temple and ‘shaw’ or ‘shawe’ meaning woods. And, Fanshawe means ‘temple in the woods’. James A. Colvin was the first president of Fanshawe College. On the 3rd of September, 2013, Peter Devlin, a former Lieutenant General of the Canadian army had become the president of the Fanshawe College. The motto of the college is ‘Unlocking Potential’. It is one of the biggest colleges in Canada.

Fanshawe is situated in the Southwestern Ontario of Canada. There are four major campuses under Fanshawe College. The London campus sprawls over an area of 100 acres accommodating 23 buildings. It houses the Norton Wolf School of Aviation Technology and the School of Transportation Technology and Apprenticeship. The London campus is one of the biggest campuses in Ontario and is sometimes described as ‘a city within a city’. The London Downtown campus has three buildings. The campus was founded in the year 2018. It houses the Schools of Hospitality and Culinary Arts, and Information Technology and Tourism at 130 Dundas Street, Access Studies at 431 Richmond Street, School of Digital and Performing Arts at 137 Dundas Street. The London South campus is Fanshawe College’s newest campus. The campus offers four programs in Business and Information Systems Architecture, Retirement Residence Management, Business Management, and Agri-Business Management.
