Admission process in Alexander College

Education in India is free and compulsory until the age of 16. The basic structure is 3 years of secondary  (grades 8-10) followed by senior secondary (grades 11-12). Following completion of secondary (grade 10) students select from two possible branches (also called tracks): academic or vocational. Students who choose the academic branch will further select from 3 possible streams: science, business, or humanities. Vocational studies may focus on computer science, mechanics, or any number of technical vocations.

Following completion of grade 12 students sit for state or national (All-India) leaving examinations

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)

• All India Senior School Certificate (equivalent to Canadian regular grade 12 education)

Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE)

• Indian Senior School Certificate (equivalent to Canadian regular grade 12 education)
• Certificate of Vocational Education (equivalent to Canadian vocational grade 12 education)

Various States

• Intermediate Certificate (equivalent to Canadian regular grade 12 education)
• Pre-University Certificate (equivalent to Canadian regular grade 12 education)
